Star Wars Study-Sesh

Posted on

Unfortunately, I am not one of those people that can study in complete silence. I have tinnitus (or a “hum in the drum” as Kevin Spacey quotes in Baby Driver), so my ears ring whenever it is too quiet. Because of this, I love listening to a mix of Lo-fi music while I study, since it is not too distracting and extremely relaxing to listen to. Anyone who personally knows me can tell you that I am a huge nerd, especially with anything Star Wars-related. Because of this, I love listening to a mix of Star Wars Lo-Fi music whenever I study.

My mixtape playlist on Spotify includes twelve songs from different Lo-Fi artists, including one of my all-time favorites, Closed on Sunday (which has plenty of other geeky Lo-Fi mixes, check them out!). The playlist begins with the Star Wars main theme by Collosia, followed by other songs from artists like Bram and Lofi Cody, and ends with “The Force is With You” piano rendition by The Blue Notes. The playlist is arranged to follow the Star Wars saga in canonical order and even includes some songs from popular spin-off television series like Star Wars The Clone Wars and Andor.

As for the cover image for my playlist, instead of using the traditional collage that Spotify generates, I opted to use an AI-generated image. Traditionally speaking, a mixtape would have a custom-made drawing on the label, some creative writing, or simply just “Dakota’s Mixtape” written on the front. I still wanted to customize the cover, but lack the creative means to draw my own artwork. Thanks to technological advancements, AI technology has allowed users to input phrases to generate “custom” works of art. My cover features an image of Captain Rex from Star Wars The Clone Wars reading a book, truly matching the Star Wars Study-Sesh theme.

Although I have used many different music streaming platforms, from Apple Music to Pandora to Tidal, I chose Spotify for this playlist. I have found that Spotify has one of the most user-friendly interfaces and allows for integration into many different services, including this website.

What kind of music do you listen to whenever you study?

Give my playlist a listen and comment down below to let me know what you think!

  1. Nice playlist Dakota! I have never tried listening to Lo-fi music to help me study but as I listened to some of the songs on your mix, I can understand why this is appealing! Also, the “nerd” attraction to Star Wars has just recently interested me. I love the use of the AI to create the cover photo for the playlist especially with the reference to Captain Rex! I will definitely be utilizing your mix in the near future.
May the force be with you and your playlist…

    1. Thank you Evan! I get way too distracted if I listen to music with words (no one likes listening to me sing in the library, so there’s that too). I’m so glad you came to the dark side of nerdiness!

      1. The inclusion of Lofi is rather interesting. It feels so modern, while Star Wars has the simultaneous feel of old and futuristic. It’s a cool fusion of the past, present, and future. How do you feel about the original soundtrack with voices? You might have a hard time with English words, but what about just sounds or made up noises?

        1. Hey thanks Tucker!
I also agree that Star Wars and Lofi feels like a weird combination of old and futuristic, I could definitely take a geeky deep-dive on Star Wars. I love the original soundtracks and have no problem listening to them while I study. While I do study better without English words, I have found that I can listen to Italian or Spanish music while I study with no problem. I guess I just try to focus on it if I can understand it.

I also enjoy listening to some German Metal like Rammstein or Mongolian folk metal like The Hu (I’m weird).

  2. Hey Dakota! This is a neat playlist, especially for a fellow Star Wars fan! I usually don’t listen to music while I’m studying, but every now and then I might listen to my soundtrack playlist, which includes some of the official scores for Star Wars. While I’m not big into Lo-fi, I think it is a creative take on turning original pieces into calming and chill tracks for studying. The use of AI to create your cover art is also pretty clever, perhaps even a bold one!

  3. I am sure this piece of writing has touched all the internet users, its really really fastidious paragraph on building up new weblog.

  4. Hey Dakota, this was a super cool playlist you put together! As a Star Wars fan I know I probably listen to a lot of the same songs as you that you put in this playlist. I really like the photos and reasons for the music you chose as well, and I really like how you use music like this to study. I know I probably will in the future!
